The next challenge in our 50 Challenges for 50 Years Anniversary Challenge Book series is provided by Kate Snowdon, staff writer at National Geographic Kids – a monthly magazine filled with features, posters, puzzles, and exciting things to make and do.

Challenge 7: Calculating Extinction

This challenge will get you scratching your cranium to work out the answer to two big questions: how many animals have become extinct in the last 50 years and how many will become extinct in the next 50?

Put on your thinking cap and have a go! Kate gives you some starting ideas for how to work out the figures and suggestions of things that might affect the answer to the second question.

One challenge from the book will be released here every few days. Look out for the next one soon!

Members can download the full 50 Challenges for 50 Years book free of charge (normally £7.50).

A hard copy of the full 50 Challenges for 50 Years is also available for £15.00 (including postage and packaging to UK addresses).

You can track your progress using the Challenge Chart. Once you’ve completed as many challenges as you can, send your chart and the answer to or result of the challenge you enjoyed the most to amazingchildren@potentialplusuk.org and we’ll send you a certificate!
